Why "stead"

A homestead is a place where a bunch of different living things get looked after at once. That's most pet people we know — a dog, a tank, maybe a gecko, definitely a cat who runs the place. Critterstead is built for that household rather than for a single-species magazine.

How we pick gear

• We buy, borrow, or already own most of what we write about.
• Every item has to solve a specific problem, not just fill a list.
• Budget picks earn their spot the same way premium ones do.
• We name the failure modes, not just the highlights.

Safety and animal welfare

We never recommend food, chews, or enrichment that a species-appropriate veterinary source flags as dangerous, and we don't make medical claims. Anything health-related gets routed back to your own vet, because they can actually examine your animal.
